Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Mary MacIntyre was born in 1859 in Victoria, Australia – the daughter of Alexander MacIntyre and Margaret Kelly.

She came to Otago with her mother and sister on the Hydra in 1863, presumably her father had come earlier, and they settled in the Tuapeka area.

Mary married George Dunnett, a widower and miner, on 26 December 1883 in the Lawrence Parish.

They had four children and when Mary signed the suffrage petition they were living at Blue Spur, near Lawrence.

George died at nearby Evans Flat in 1910 andMary died on 15 July 1935 at her daughter’s home at Waitahuna West.

She is buried with George in the Lawrence Cemetery.

Her obituary said she was 'a very old and esteemed resident of the Lawrence district....She was much respected by all who knew her'.
