Mary Uren was born about 1836 in Gwinear, Cornwall, England.
She married Ezekiel Johns, a miner, on 1 August 1854 in Carmarthenshire, Wales.
They had a daughter in Wales (See 82 Mrs M J Uren) before sailing for Victoria, Australia about 1857.
They had three children in Victoria and returned to Cornwall about 1870.
The family sailed for Auckland in 1877 on the Otaki and they settled in the Tuapeka goldfields.
When Mary signed the suffrage petition the family were living at Blue Spur near Lawrence.
Ezekiel died in 1910 and Mary died on 7 July 1917 at her daughter’s home in Dunedin, they are buried together in the Lawrence Cemetery.
