Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Mary Priscilla Latham was born about 1859, probably in New Zealand – the daughter of Thomas Latham and Susannah Binns.
She grew up at Waikouaiti, north of Dunedin, before her family moved to Waikaka in the late 1870s.
Mary married Ebenezer MacGibbon, a merchant, in 1880 and they had seven children, one who died in infancy.
When Mary signed the suffrage petition they were living in East Gore where Ebenezer died in 1915.
Mary died on 23 January 1931 – they are buried together in the Gore Cemetery.
Mary’s obituary said she 'was of a lovable and kindly disposition and made many friends. She was an ardent supporter of the Presbyterian Church in its many activities, and was a lady who delighted in an unostentatious way in doing good.'
