Elizabeth Harrison was born about 1849 in England.
She married Dennis Capps Mitchell in London in 1865 and they had one son before they emigrated to Otago in 1871 on the Jessie Readman.
Their daughter Jessie Readman Mitchell was born on the voyage.
They settled in Dunedin where they had a further six children, two who died in infancy.
When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition the family were running a grocery business in Macandrew Road, Dunedin.
Dennis died in 1918 and Elizabeth died on 21 October 1940 – they are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
