Elizabeth Gaitt was born Elizabeth Lowthorpe on 3 May 1844 at 1 Miner Pl, Southward, Surrey, England to John Lowthorpe and Mary Ann Lowthorpe nee Crouchley.
Elizabeth was baptised on 23 March 1845 Lambeth St John the Evangelist, Surrey, England.
Elizabeth arrived in New Zealand at the Port of Auckland on 18 December 1871 on the ship City of Auckland ex London as a Third-Class passenger.
On 30 April 1874 she married William Gaitt at the Residence of Mr T Nixon in Temuka. William was a Farmer.
Elizabeth and William had five children: William Fredrick James Gaitt born 1876; Mabel Rebecca Gaitt born in 1878; Lewis Leopold gait born in 1880; Donella Victoria Gaitt born in 1882; and Stephanie Marcellia Gaitt born in 1884.
During their married life they lived in Waimate.
William died on 8 January 1893 in Waimate age 48 years.
Elizabeth died on 6 November 1920 age 78 years and is buried in the Waimate cemetery in Plot 000153.
