Florence Peterson was born on 29 January 1849 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire – the daughter of Peter Peterson and Mary Smith.
Her family emigrated to Otago in 1849 on the Mooltan and settled in Dunedin.
She married James Grey, a farmer, on 23 August 1870 - they had two sons and lived at Waihola south of Dunedin.
James died in 1888 at their home in Clyde St, Mornington, Florence was still living there when she signed the suffrage petition.
She died on 25 October 1917 and is buried with James in the Southern Cemetery.
