Mary Jane Wright was born about 1841. 

She emigrated to New Zealand where she married builder Frederick James Gleeson in 1862 in Auckland. 

They moved to Greymouth in 1865 and they had nine children, one who died in infancy. 

Mary signed the suffrage petition in Greymouth. 

She died shortly after signing on 9 April 1893. Frederick died in 1903 – they are buried together in the Karoro Cemetery.
