Adeline/Lilly Constance Barton was born in New Zealand in 1869 – the daughter of Frederick William Barton, a storekeeper, and Jane Merton Waugh. Her father died when she was four years old and her mother re-married four years later.
On 28 March 1891 at her grandmother’s house the Glen, Mornington, Dunedin, Adeline married Frederick Charles Peters, a quarryman. They had four children and lived in Careys Bay near Dunedin.
Frederick died in 1942 and Adeline died on 22 June 1951. They are buried together in the Port Chalmers Cemetery
