Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Susan Sophia Young was born in Victoria, Australia in 1856 – the daughter of Joseph Taylor and Elizabeth Clark.

She came to Otago with her family in the 1860s and she married Frederick William Taylor, a tram examiner, on 3 January 1884 at her parents’ home in Frederick St, Dunedin.

Susan and Frederick had three children and when Susan signed the suffrage petition they were living in Hawthorne Avenue, Mornington.

Frederick died in 1912 and Susan died at her home on 15 June 1925 – they are buried together in the Northern Cemetery.
