Sarah Hannah Graham was born on 7 May 1828 in Maybole, Ayrshire – the daughter of John Graham, a tea dealer, and Jean Elisabeth Niven.
She married, baker, George Ferguson on 21 December 1851 in Maybole and they had eight children.
In 1875 the family arrived in Otago on the Timaru.
They settled in Dunedin and when Sarah signed the suffrage petition they were living in Cumberland Street.
Sarah died at her home on 1 December 1899 and George died in 1916 – they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
