Lucy Anna Darwent was born about 1861 in Adelaide, South Australia.
She came to New Zealand where she married James Fotheringham on 26 January 1885 at the Dunedin registry office.
James was a grain broker and widower with four children.
Lucy and James had a further three children, one who died in infancy and when Lucy signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Annandale Rd, St Clair.
James died in 1921 - he is buried with his first wife in the Southern Cemetery.
Lucy died on 11 October 1947 – she was cremated.
