Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Elizabeth (Lizzie) Park was born in 1867 in New Zealand, the daughter of William Park amd Annie Stewart.

Elizabeth attended North District and Caversham schools in Dunedin.

She married George Elder Brown, a clerk, on 12 November 1890 at her mother’s house, Rosemount, in Caversham.

Elizabeth and George had two daughters. Whien she signed the suffrage petition, they were living in George St, Dunedin.

About 1904 the family moved to Wellington. Later they moved to Levin, where Elizabeth died on 22 January 1941 and George died in 1942.

Elizabeth’s obituary states:

'She led an active life, in her younger days she was a keen tennis player, and later took up croquet. She was a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the YMCA, the Boys Institute, and the Ladies’ Guild of St Andrew’s Church, The Terrace, Wellington. Since coming to Levin Mrs Brown has been actively associated with the Levin WDFU, the League of Mothers, the Presbyterian Church Ladies’ Guild, and was president of the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union.'

Elizabeth and George are buried in the Old Levin Cemetery.
