Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.

Elizabeth Williams was born about 1841 in Buckinghamshire, England.

She married George Springer, a joiner, in London in 1865 and they had four daughters before they emigrated to Otago in 1875 on the Gareloch.

They settled in Dunedin where they had a further three children and when Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition they were living in Ascotvale, North East Valley and George was a partner in a firm of undertakers.

Elizabeth died at her home on 27 December 1904 and George died in 1907 – they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
