Margaret Mackissack was born on February 26th 1835 in Milton Duff, Elgin, Scotland, the daughter of John Mackissack, a farmer, and Jane Garren.
She married wood merchant William Gallon on August 3rd 1859 at Miltonbrae, Elgin and soon after they emigrated to New Zealand.
William ran a store at Pleasant Valley in North Otago. He was declared insolvent in 1869.
They moved to Palmerston where Margaret signed the suffrage petition and William worked as a builder.
William died at Palmerston in 1907 and Margaret died in Dunedin on September 29th 1916. She is buried, probably with William, in the Palmerston Cemetery.
