Agnes Ferrie was born on 7 February 1858 in Renfrewshire, Scotland – the daughter of William Ferrie, an agricultural labourer, and Margaret McBride.
She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1875 on the Auckland and they settled in Dunedin.
Agnes married John Utterby Gooseman, a seaman, on 6 June 1876 in Dunedin and they had nine children.
When Agnes signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Hanover St.
John died in 1930 and Agnes died on 20 September 1957 aged 99 years – they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
