Elizabeth McMaster was born about 1838 in Scotland, she came to New Zealand about 1856 and married John Gracie in 1862.
John worked as a farmer and builder and the family lived at Saddle Hill near Dunedin. They had a daughter in 1862, twins who died soon after birth in 1872 followed by a son and another set of twins in 1873 and 1875.
The farm stock was sold in 1883 and the family moved to Victoria, Australia, their 12 year old son died there in 1886 and the family returned to Otago in 1893.
When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition she gave her address as Dundas St, Dunedin.
The farm at Saddle Hill was sold in 1899 and the family moved permanently to Dundas St.
John died there in 1912 and Elizabeth died on 19 December 1926, they are buried with their daughter in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
