Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Archibaldina Spiers was born on 10 February 1849 in Lanarkshire, Scotland, the daughter of Archibald Spiers, a coal miner, and Christina Gourlay.

Her father died when Archibaldina was young; her mother re-married to Andrew Faulds, also a coal miner, in 1853.

Archibaldina married Archibald Graham on 30 April 1872 in Glasgow.

They had three children before they emigrated to Otago in 1876 on the Dunedin. Their three-year-old son Archibald died on the voyage of measles.

They had a further six children after their arrival in New Zealand. The family settled in Dunedin.

When Archibaldina signed the suffrage petition, they were living in Clarendon St and Archibald was working as an express proprietor.

Archibaldina died on 6 March 1909 and Archibald died in 1924. They are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery, Dunedin.
