Helen Mills was born in 1858 in New Zealand – the daughter of John Mills and Jane Calder.
She grew up in Green Island, near Dunedin, where she married John Griffiths, a butcher, on 30 April 1886 at her parents’ home.
They had seven children and when Helen signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Main South Rd, Caversham in Dunedin.
John died at their daughter’s home in Dunedin in 1939 and Helen died on 5 February 1951. They are buried in the Southern Cemetery.
