Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Harriet/Henrietta Prothero Taylor was born in London about 1830. She married Thomas William Burrows, a salesman, in London in 1849.
They had a daughter, also called Harriet, in about 1853 before they emigrated to Victoria, Australia, in about 1854. Two sons were born in Victoria.
Harriet then appears to have parted from Thomas and started living with Francis Martin Clark, a clerk. They had a daughter, Louise, before moving to New Zealand about 1863.
Harriet and Francis had three sons. Harriet married Francis in 1873 and, when she signed the suffrage petition, she was living in Maryhill Tce, Mornington, Dunedin.
Francis died in 1905 and Harriet died on 11 September 1914 at her daughter’s home in Oamaru.
She is buried with Francis in the Southern Cemetery, Dunedin.
