Hester/Esther Cague was born about 1846 in England. She arrived in New Zealand about 1865.
Esther married William Cooper, a carpenter, on 19 July 1869 in the Otepopo Parish in North Otago. They had six children, one of whom died in infancy, and a son who disappeared while swimming in the sea at the age of 14. The family lived in Steep St off Maitland St in Dunedin.
William died in 1903 and Esther died on 31 October 1924. They are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
