Esther Tarrant was born in 1856 in Ballarat, Victoria – the daughter of Benjamin Tarrant and Mary Ann Easton.
She sailed to Hokitika with her family in 1875 on the Alhambra and she married, surveyor, Henry Alfred Kyle in Kumara on 28 June 1877.
They had six children and when Esther signed the suffrage petition they were living in Greymouth and Henry was working as a florist.
In 1927 they celebrated their golden wedding with a family gathering.
Henry died in 1936 – he is buried in the Karoro Cemetery.
Esther died in Greymouth on 13 October 1944 – she is buried in the Bromley Cemetery, Christchurch.
