Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Ann Isabella Hunter Sanderson was born in 1865 in New Zealand – the daughter of William Sanderson, a farmer, and Helen Alexander.

She married Peter Rivers, a wheelwright, on 8 November 1888 at her home 'Lochend' on the Otago Peninsula.

They had two children and when Ann signed the suffrage petition they were living in Andersons Bay near Dunedin.

Peter died at their home in 1895 – he is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.

Ann re-married on 10 October 1906 in the South Dunedin Parish to William Smith Cummock, an attendant at the Seacliff Asylum.

William died in 1923 after which Ann moved to Waitati.

Ann died in Dunedin on 30 April 1948 – she is buried with William in the Waitati Cemetery.
