Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Honora O’Connor was born about 1846 – she married John Shannon, an aerated water manufacturer, in 1870 in New Zealand and they had seven children.

When Hanora signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Victoria Terrace, Andersons Bay Rd, Dunedin.

In 1896 their home was burnt to the ground when a kerosene lamp was upset. The house next door, also owned by the Shannon family, was also destroyed.

John died at their home in 1927, he is buried with two of their daughters in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.

Honora died on 21 December 1931, she is buried in the Southern Cemetery.
