Catherine Chisholm was born about 1838 in Scotland.
She married William Halligan on 20 October 1862 in Edinburgh, Scotland and the following year they emigrated to Otago on the Arima.
They settled in Dunedin and had eight children.
When Catherine signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Main Rd, South Dunedin.
Catherine died at their home on 8 December 1912 and William died in 1920, they are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
