Elizabeth Marpeth was born about 1836 in Canada and she was married to William Harper, a sailor.

They had two daughters in the 1860s while living in Shanghai before they emigrated to Otago in 1875 on the Gareloch.

They settled in Dunedin and when Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition they were living in The Glen in Mornington

Where and when William died is unknown.

Elizabeth died at her daughter’s home on 20 August 1911 – she is buried with her daughters in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
