Jane Vallance Morton was born on 10 April 1851 in East Kilbride, Lanarkshire, Scotland – the daughter of John Morton and Jane Vallance.
She married William Henderson, a company manager, on 22 December 1870 in Southland and they had seven children.
When Jane signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Eglinton Rd, Dunedin.
Jane died on 17 February 1924 in Christchurch and William died in 1930, they are buried together in the Waimari Cemetery, Christchurch.
