Lucy McLelland was born about 1860 in Ireland.

She married James Hill, an expressman, on 15 February 1888 in Dunedin and they had three children.

When Lucy signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Opoho.

Lucy died at her son’s home in Dunedin on 11 May 1937 and James died in 1944 – they are buried with their daughter in the Northern Cemetery.
