Sarah Barber was born in 1853 in London – the daughter of John Barber, an artificial florist, and Sarah Leigh Crocker.
She married John Hudson, a carman, on 30 March 1873 in Islington, London.
They had one daughter before they sailed for Otago in 1875 on the James Nicol Fleming.
The family settled in Dunedin where they had a further 10 children.
When Sarah signed the suffrage petition they were living in Sydney St, Caversham.
John died in 1930 and Sarah died on 3 September 1933 – they are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
