Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Euphemia Sandeman was born in Scotland about 1842. She married Robert Hutchison, a mariner, on 2 October 1868 in Angus, Scotland.

They had two children in Scotland before they came to New Zealand. Another two children were born after their arrival. When Euphemia signed the suffrage petition she was a widow living in Maitland St, Dunedin.

Her sister Jessie also signed the petition.

Euphemia died on 10 July 1923 and she is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery with her sister.
