Jane More was born about 1845 in Dysart, Fife, Scotland.
She married Thomas Ball on 11 September 1866 in Dysart and shortly after they emigrated to New Zealand.
They settled in Dunedin where they had 10 children, two who died in infancy.
Thomas died in 1886 and when Jane signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Macandrew Road working as a janitress.
She married widower John Barber, a miller, in 1896.
John died in 1909 – he is buried in the Southern Cemetery.
Jane died at her home on 8 January 1913 – she is buried with Thomas in the family grave also in the Southern Cemetery.
