Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Eliza Musgrove Growden was born in 1854 in Victoria, Australia – the daughter of Henry Growden and Eliza Howe.

In May 1861 Eliza’s family arrived in Otago on the 'Prince Alfred' from Melbourne.

On 31 July 1878, at her parent’s house, Princes St, Dunedin, Eliza married Jabez Beck. They had three children, including Eliza (Ethel) who signed the petition at the age of 14.

Jabez died at his residence, Upper Walker St, Dunedin in 1911 and Eliza died on 19 May 1918 at Carroll St.

They are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
