Notes:

Mrs J. Cutler is most likely Kate, wife of James Cutler who was living in Waimate North, Northland in 1896. Their children were Norah Evelyn (1880), Cecil James Kelly (1882-1918), Elsie Marion (1884) and Barnham John Pugh (1889-1955). By 1905-6 this couple had moved to Oxford Street, Newton Auckland with James giving his occupation as a driver. A few years later they were living at Lincoln Street, Ponsonby, Auckland. It was here at 77 Lincoln Street that Kate died on 21 June 1932 aged 82. Her husband James died in 1938 aged 78.

Kate's father was identified at her death as John Pugh of Waimate North, Northland. There was a man of that name paying rates in Russell in 1845. The NZ Electoral Rolls suggest he was initially both a carpenter and soldier in Waimate North between 1853 and 1864. By 1870 he had 50 acres of freehold land. Subsequent rolls for Waimate North gave his occupation as a carpenter in 1880 & 1890. He died in 1899. John's wife, Norah died in 1876 aged 60 having given birth to children: Harriett (1852), John William (1854), Mary Ann Jane (1856), Robert Francis (1858) and George (1860) in New Zealand. Kate is not listed but a similar death notice appeared when Maria Hewitt nee Pugh died in 1930. She was born about 1840 suggesting that John and Norah Dillon married before marriages were registered by the government.
