Margaret Johnston was born about 1864 in New Zealand.
She married Joseph Holgate, a bookbinder, in 1887. They had three children.
Joseph died in Dunedin in 1913 and Margaret died on 14 November 1944 in Otorohunga. They are buried in a family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery, Dunedin.
