Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Janet/Jessie Wright was born on 27 March 1856 in Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, Scotland – the daughter of Robert Wright, a labourer, and Marion Paterson.

She married Richard Jack in 1883 and they emigrated to Otago soon after.

They had four children, one who died in childhood, and when Jessie signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Clark St, Caversham, Dunedin.

They later moved to Maitland St where Jessie died on 23 March 1926 and Richard died in 1934.

They are buried with their daughter in the Southern Cemetery.
