Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Mary Costello was born about 1835 in Ireland.
She emigrated to New Zealand where she married John McGee, a coal miner, in 1872.
They appear to have had one son, who died aged three, although his birth has not been registered.
When Mary signed the suffrage petition they were living in Fairfield, near Dunedin.
John died on 5 November 1913 and Mary died shortly after on 27 November.
They are buried with their son in the Green Island Cemetery.
