Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Jessie Sim Young was born about 1841 in Scotland.

She emigrated to Otago in 1860 on the Gala and she married John Martin, a farmer, later that year on 28 December in the Tokomairiro parish.

They had 11 children and when Jessie signed the suffrage petition they were living at 'Clover Hill' near Milton.

John died at their home in 1907 and Jessie died at her daughter’s home in Milton on 4 March 1929, they are buried together in the Fairfax Cemetery, Milton.
