Frances Wilson was born about 1865 in Auckland. 

She married, sawyer, James Ruston in 1882 in Dunedin and they had four children, one who died in infancy. 

When Frances signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Cargill Road, South Dunedin. 

In 1896 James was elected as Mayor of the Caversham Council. 

In 1919 Frances and James went for a holiday to the North Island where James died while staying in Wanganui. 

Frances died at her home in South Dunedin on 21 August 1945 – she is buried with James in the Southern Cemetery.
