Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Catherine Harvey/Hervie was born about 1835 in Kippen, Stirlingshire, Scotland – the daughter of William Harvey and Elizabeth More.

She married Ebenezer Jackson, a hosier’s porter, on 7 December 1858 in Kippen and they had two sons before they emigrated to Otago arriving in 1862 on the Silistria.

A further six children were born in New Zealand and the family farmed at Mount Stuart south of Waitahuna in South Otago.

Ebenezer died at their home in Manuka Creek, near Waitahuna, in 1891 which is where Catherine signed the suffrage petition.

Some-time after this she moved to Dunedin where she died on 4 June 1922.

She is buried with Ebenezer in the Waitahuna Cemetery.
