Amelia Frances Clement was born in 1846 in Downham, Norfolk, England – the daughter of George Clement, a Wesleyan Methodist Minister, and Leah Chapman.
She married James Hunter, a bank accountant, on 4 June 1866 in Malew, Isle of Man.
They lived in Lerwick, Shetland Island, James’ home town and had three children, one who died in infancy.
The family emigrated to Otago in 1878 on the Calypso as saloon passengers and when Amelia signed the suffrage petition they were living in Grosvenor St, Kensington, Dunedin.
James died in April 1902 and Amelia died on 26 November the same year, they are buried with their daughter Frances (See 43 Frances Hunter) in the Southern Cemetery.
