Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Jane Suttie was born about 1836 in Fife, Scotland.

She emigrated to Otago in 1863 on the Victory and lived with John Jamie, a watchmaker and jeweller, as 'housekeeper'.

They lived in Balclutha, Clinton, Tapanui and Gore where Jane signed the suffrage petition.

Although they do not appear to have married they had two children who John acknowledged in his will.

He died in 1889 and Jane died on 28 December 1906 – they are buried together in the Gore Cemetery.
