Jean Douglas was born about 1814 in Perthshire, Scotland. She married Donald Borrie on 11 February 1845 in Clunie, Perthshire, Scotland.
They had three children, two who died in infancy, before they emigrated to Otago in 1852 on the Agra.
They had at least two more children either on the voyage or in New Zealand.
Donald died in 1883 at their farm 'Balmoral' near Outram on the Taieri Plain.
When Jane signed the suffrage petition she was living with her daughter Eliza (See 59 E Borrie) in Leith St, Dunedin.
She died at 'Balmoral' on 15 July 1896 and is buried in the family grave in the West Taieri Cemetery.
