Jane was born about 1852 in Scotland and was married to John Hogg, a pianoforte tuner and importer.

They had, at least, eight children and when Jane signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Filleul St, Dunedin.

John died in 1900 and Jane died on 24 May 1930, they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
