Biographical information provided by Briar Barry for the He Tohu exhibition:

Ann Watt (nee Ayson) was born in Scotland on 20 May 1839. She came to New Zealand with her parents and several other family members aboard the Royal Albert in 1853.

In 1864 Ann married John Watt and went to live on his farm at Kaihiku, between Balclutha and Clinton (about 100km from Dunedin). The couple were keen Church workers and were known for to their generosity. They had a family of three sons and six daughters: Duncan, Peter Ayson, Janet, Annie, John Jnr, Douglas, Margaret Ayson, Helena Anderson, and Elspeth Mary.

John died on 24 November 1889 and Ann died at Mosgiel on 1 April 1924.
