Jane Riddle was born about 1860.

She married John Whyte on 29 January 1885 in the East Taieri parish.

They had seven children, three who died in infancy, and when Jane signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Grosvenor St, Kensington in Dunedin.

John died in 1930 and Jane died on 6 November 1949 – they are buried together in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
