Ann Dron Stevens was born in 1864 in Waikaka, New Zealand – the daughter of John Stevens and Elizabeth.

She married Julius Johnson, a maker of artificial limbs from Norway, on 25 February 1880, at Dunedin. 

Ann and Julius had six children and, when Ann signed the suffrage petition, the family were living in George St, Dunedin. 

Julius died in 1933 and Ann died on 13 May 1943, they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
