Biographical information provided by Briar Barry for the He Tohu exhibition:
Mrs Joseph Chivers’ name was Ann and she was born around 1825. Her husband originally worked as an engineer in Christchurch but he descended into madness and eventually died while a patient at Sunnyside Hospital (also known as Sunnyside Lunatic Asylum) in Christchurch, 1903. Ann Chivers died June 12, 1908 and is buried alongside her husband.
