Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Annie Metcalfe was born about 1850.

She emigrated to New Zealand and she married Paul Kelly Leyden on 5 January 1874 in Dunedin.

They had seven children and lived, at first, in South Dunedin before moving to Wingatui on the Taieri Plain in 1881 where they had a farm.

Their last child was born in 1887 at Balleycastle Villa, Wingatui - Paul died the following year aged 41.

Annie moved back to South Dunedin and when she signed the suffrage petition she was living in Macandrew Road.

She married again in 1896 to Henry Hudspith Turner who worked as a labourer then as a law clerk.

Henry disappears from the records after 1925.

Ann died on 5 July 1933 in Dunedin – she is buried with Paul in the East Taieri Cemetery.
