Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Harriet Rogers was born in 1868 in Sedley, Staffordshire, England, the daughter of George Rogers, a cabinetmaker, and Esther Clemson.

She emigrated to Otago with her parents and six siblings on the Caroline, arriving on 25 May in 1883.

Less than a month later her father died in Dunedin. A 'Grand Concert' was held in July to raise funds to help the family, £10 was raised. Another £113 was raised from individual contributors as well as gifts of clothing, groceries and coal.

Harriet’s mother re-married in 1889. That same year, Harriet married William Lindsay, a storeman, at Knox Church on 18 December.

Harriet and William had twelve children, two dying young. The family lived in Clarendon St, Dunedin and later moved to North East Valley.

Harriet died on 5 March 1933 and William died in 1947. They are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery, Dunedin.
