Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Jane Ferrier Menzies was born on 12 March 1860 in Glasgow, Scotland. She was the daughter of William Menzies and Henrietta Wilson.

Jane’s family came to Dunedin in about 1864 and settled in Sawyers Bay.

In 1880 Jane married David McWilliam Logan, a Customs officer in Port Chalmers. They had six children and in 1887 David was transferred to the customs department in Dunedin. In March 1898 David died suddenly while delivering a violin to the Dunedin Exhibition. Jane petitioned parliament for compensation but the outcome is unsure.

Jane re-married in 1907 to Lawrence Irvine, a widower with a large family.

Lawrence died in 1931 and Jane died on 16 August 1938, she is buried with her first husband David Logan in the Northern Cemetery.
