Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Mary Jane Evans was born in New Zealand in 1867 – the daughter of Daniel Evans, a slaughterman, and Elizabeth Thomas.

She married Charles Lormier, a carpenter, on 8 October 1891 at the North East Valley Presbyterian Church.

They had one daughter and when Mary signed the suffrage petition they were living in Opoho, Dunedin.

Charles died in 1937 and Mary died on 26 July 1941 – they were both cremated and their ashes were scattered.
